The Daffodil Hotel and Spa offers contemporary luxury on the shores of Grasmere water, located in the heart of The Lake District and just a short walk into Grasmere village. The overall ambiance of the hotel, in terms of decorations, furnishings, wall hangings together with the subtle sense of humour displayed by the wall discrete wall paintings, is excellent.
This makes you feel relaxed and at ease immediately you enter the hotel and throughout your stay. The hotel staff are really brilliant and are great ambassadors. This family-run hotel overlooks Lake Windermere and has free parking, free Wi-Fi and fine food. The shops of Ambleside are a minute stroll away. The location of the hotel is great- right by the lake at Waterhead Bay and close to the pier, with excellent parking. We had a superior double room which was spacious and private, with a nice seating area inside and a terrace area outside.
We did not have a view, but we spent very little time in the room during the day so it did not matter. The staff are welcoming and friendly, especially the staff in the restaurant in the mornings. The breakfast is generous and varied - although we only had the continental selection so can't comment on the cooked selection, which was clearly popular. We ate in the restaurant one night and had a very nice meal but there is a good selection of restaurants in Ambleside, which is only a short walk away, and the fish and chips available at the pier are excellent.
The room configuration provided a discrete sleeping area and the bed was comfortable, while the living area was spacious with good storage, tea making facilities and nice area to sit for a meal or cup of tea. The bathroom was well appointed and roomy. The furnishings and finishing in the room were in good condition and everything worked properly. The location is fantastic - we parked the car on the evening of our arrival and didn't move it until we left again four days later.
The walking from the hotel is fantastic - so many choices, and access to the ferry on Lake Windermere, which is just a short stroll across the road, increases the options. Our introduction to Ambleside was a ferry ride to Wray Castle, a walk down the far side of the lake, a short ferry ride back across the lake to Bowness and then a cruise back to Waterhead Bay The Walkers Ticket covers all this. There were great options for tea, coffee and food everywhere we went.
In the heart of the Lake District national park, Haweswater Hotel has a bar and a lake view terrace. Brasserie 37 overlooks the lake and offers a menu of local, seasonal produce. It's rare I give anywhere I stay a score of 10 but this hotel deserved it and so did the staff which made it for me. The wildlife in the garden was definitely a bonus.
